MSA G1 XR Edition SCBA Now Certified to NFPA 1970 (2025) Standards

MSA Safety has officially announced that the MSA G1™ SCBA XR Edition has received NIOSH approval and SEI certification as compliant with the 2025 edition of NFPA 1970 — the newest performance standard for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) used in the fire service.
This certification is a major milestone for departments planning future SCBA upgrades or working to remain compliant with the updated NFPA standards. Orders can be placed immediately, with production scheduled to increase over the coming months.
Originally unveiled at FDIC last year, the G1 XR Edition represents the latest evolution of MSA’s trusted G1 SCBA platform. It introduces improved soft goods, updated Bluetooth® indicators, and key enhancements driven by more than 10 years of firefighter feedback and innovation.
What Changed in the 2025 Edition of NFPA 1970?
The NFPA 1970 (2025) standard consolidates several previous standards — including NFPA 1981 and NFPA 1982 — into a single, updated performance requirement for SCBA systems. As part of this change, three major upgrades are now required for compliant SCBAs:
1. Updated End-of-Service Time Indicator (EOSTI)
2. Removable Soft Goods for Easier Cleaning
3. Enhanced Bluetooth® Connection Indicators
