Supporting Your Department Through NFPA 1850 & Cancer Prevention

With the new NFPA 1850 standard coming into effect, departments across Ontario are adapting to important updates — including the introduction of the PPE Manager and PPE Technician role. At A.J. Stone Company and Sani Gear, we’re here to make that transition seamless!

Sani-Gear can serve as your PPE Technician or support your designated team member(s), ensuring full compliance without adding more work to your department.

We will work directly with your department to build a customized schedule for your Annual Bunker Gear Maintenance — guaranteeing all cleanings and inspections are completed on time, every year. Once the schedule is set, all you need to do is have your gear ready to ship on the scheduled dates — we handle the rest.

Sani-Gear offers a van program making things even easier. In select regions, they offer direct pickup and delivery with their service truck, keeping your maintenance program running smoothly!

A Shared Commitment to Cancer Prevention

With Bill C-224 now in place, the National Framework on Cancers Linked to Firefighting highlights the growing importance of regular gear maintenance. This framework focuses on:

  • Raising awareness and education on occupational cancers
  • Improving access to prevention, screening, and treatment
  • Supporting research and data sharing
  • Designating January as Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month

Regular cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of bunker gear plays a key role in reducing carcinogen exposure — and we’re proud to help your department stay proactive!

As you plan for January 2026, why not start the year knowing your department already has a comprehensive gear maintenance program in place?
